An introduction to the text...
With Vicky
Gregov in Language through Literature we read a story called "The Day the
Mountain Blew Apart" wich it's based on true facts. The story is about the
eruption of a mountain, in Washington in May 18, 1980.
Summary of the story...
This story it's
a Historical Narrative, that is a story based on true facts that happened in
the past. The characters, the place and the events are true. Titanic could be
an example of it because it's based on something that in past happened.
Jerry Wheeler
and David Johnson were in the mountain when it erupted. Wheeler survived but
Johnson died in that moment. The magma had been rising inside the mountain,
making a lot of pressure, until it erupted. It had the force of forty million
of tons of dynamite.
All the place
was destroyed and davastated 57 people died. Everything was covered with ashes,
smoke and fire. The forest, plants and animals dissappear and died. The place
was like a "Ghost town" because everyone stayed inside their houses
and didn't go out because they couldn't breathe. Less people died because kids
were on home because it erupted on a Sunday. Gophers helped because they
brought the rich soil upto the surface, wich helped new plants to grow. Elks
bones also helped new plants to grow because of the nutrients they had. It will
take more than hundred years to have everything as it was before the eruption.
