Ideas to improve your informal email

In Language we had to read about informal emails. And then, we made a chart summarising the text. Here I show you ours. I worked with Camila.

We also wrote an email. Here you have the one I did with Camila.

From: Sophie
To: Tom
Subject: Creating a blog.

Hi Tom,
Very well! And you? Well, I´m studying a lot. I´m very tired.

Yes! Of course I remember. I think the you want teenagers to read it, you should write about books, films, sports, soap operas and put on teenagers shoes. You can also write tips and pieces of advice at the time of studying.

Currently I´m workingt on an online newspaper, I do the design part. Sure!! I´ll help you with the design of the work. We can arrange a date and we talk through skype so I show you my ideas.

About the printer, I advice you to buy it in Garbarino. Things there are cheap and they´re good quality.

Good luck,
Sophie.

Tips to write an article

In the Language class we worked with the writing theory and practice of articles. We made two charts with tips to kown how to write it. Here you have them. I did them with Camila

We also wrote an article about learning foreign languages. I share you mine.

Now a days, is very common and necessary to learn a foreign language. Studying a new language brings many advantages in life.

There are many advantages when you know a different language. You can have the opportunity of working or studying abroad, you can communicate  with people from other countries, such as going to the super market while you are travelling in another country.

Other advantages that can help you if you study, travel, work or live in another country is that you are abel to do everything you want in your daily life without any difficulty. You can understand the country's cultures, traditions and signs. This makes your life, travel, etc easier and enjoyable.

Althought is not easy, to learn a second language is very helpful. Would you try it?

We searched on the internet an article we thought it was interesting. We read it and we wrote a summary. Here you have my article and the summary I did.

This is an article from the online newspaper called Herald.

The article is about a blind dog, who lived in Alaska,  and got lost in Febraury 6th when the temprature dipped to 40 degrees below 0. It also says what his owner expected to find or do if someone find it.

Luckily after two weeks the dog was found alive. So, the owner rewarded the man who did it and he is now happy at home with his dog.

The article also mentions another case of a blind dog lost and it's happy ending.

An essay on "The Strange Case of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde"

In the class of L/L writing we worked with Literary essay. After reading the theory and examples, we wrote our Literary essay on "The strange Case of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde". I worked with Camila Kos.

An essay on “The Strange Case of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde”

The novel “The Strange Case of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde” written by Robert Louis Stevenson, is about an honorable doctor called Henry Jekyll, who is interested in the double personality of human being. Finally, he creates a potion to reach his aim, but the results he gets are not the expected ones. In this essay the topics to be analyzed will be the main themes, which they are The Duality of Human Nature, The Importance of Reputation and The Innocent and The Guilty.

Throughout the novel the theme Duality of Human Nature is developed. This theme emphasizes the two personalities a human being has, the good and the bad one. As Jekyll creates a potion to separate them, his goal is to create two personalities. But he transforms the good in bad and that is how, the bad part becomes dominant. Hyde is an amoral creature. Yet, if he was an animal he would not live in an urban place or act as a human. “…It was on the moral side, and in my own person, that I learned to recognize the thorough and primitive duality of man”.

The second main theme that is analyzed is The Importance of Reputation. During Victorian era, reputation was very important. But, to have reputation you must avoid gossiping, with others. To gossip was not for people from the upper classes; the ones who did it were not well seen. Utterson and Enfield have a reputation so, they avoid gossiping when they talk about the story of the door. “I am ashamed of my long tongue. Let us make a bargain never to refer to this again”.

The last theme to analyze is The Innocent and The guilty. This novel has many violent scenes. In most of them the culprit is Hyde and the victim, an innocent person. Sir Carew and the little girl are both victims of Hyde. But in the end of the story, Hyde’s victims are both Jekyll and Hyde when he finally commits suicide. Neither of the victims are innocent, both of them do wrong things. “And next moment, with ape-like fury, he was trampling his victim under foot, and hailing down a storm of blows, under which the bones were audibly shattered and the body jumped upon the roadway”.

In “The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde”, the author focuses on these three themes. As a conclusion, we may say that the themes analyzed in this essay are developed all along the novel, and they are very important to it. Without them, the novel would not create a strange and mysterious feeling in the reader. These themes are not common in novels, they are original and that is what makes this novel very special, sophisticated and traditional.

LFVD faces its worst nightmare
                                 By Jimena

Fire destoyed one of the most important clothing factories, "Last Fashion", located in the South Western part of the city of Las Vegas, yesterday morning. 2 blocks were devastated.

The explosion was heard in the whole city. Flames were at least 30 feet high. Smoke covered the neighbourhood and ashes were found up to 10 miles away from the premises. More than 100 firemen fought against the fire for more than 3 hours. Temperature aroused 50°Fin less than 30 minutes.

Once the incident was controlled they were able to enter the building and they found the dead bodies of the 400 workers. Unfortunately, nobody survived. Paramedics, forensics and ambulances worked more than 12 hours in the sad process of identification, while 2000 speechless relatives were waiting for news. Around 50 physicologists were assisting them.

This reporter got some comments of people who were around when the fire started. John Smith, neighbor of Last Fashion said: "Noise, smoke and ashes brought to my mind 9/11". Carlotta Sanchez, owner of a cafe located across the street said: "I'm broken; all of a sudden my shop dissapear. I could barely run out of my shop before it collapsed". Emily Fields, John Edwards' wife, one of the casualties shouted: "This shouldn't have happened. Security in this factory was weak. I lost my 32-old husband and my 5 children lost their father. Who will take care of us?".

Experts from Las Vegas Fire Department (LVFD) jointly with Infrastructure local authorities commented that first tests concluded that fire was caused by sabotage ut declined to give details to protect further criminal investigations.

Short Story: A different trip

In L/L wrting we worked with short stories. So as a final task for the unit we worked we had to write a short story. But we must include 1 dialogue as a minimun, the last sentence of the story had to be ...and she was the last time he saw her or a similar phrase with the same idea and the story must have between 400 and 550/600 words. Here you have my short story.

A different trip

Last autumn, Allison Fitzgerald, a Canadian teenager travelled with her
parents to New York. Aria and Ezra Fitzgerald went to New York on a business
trip. She was very excited to be in such a gorgeous city for her first time,
although she was afraid to get lost in such a magnificent city.

They flew to New York on March 21st . The three of them were happy to
spend time together in NYC, although the couple had to work a little bit. At
3.00 pm the family arrived at Toronto Pearson International Airport (TPIA).
They had three pieces of luggage and two hand bags. They checked their
luggage and went to get a coffee near the gate where they would board later.

At 7.00 pm they arrived at JFK (John F. Kennedy Airport). They picked their
luggage and took a taxi to their hotel, the Fairfield Inn & Suites, in Times
Square, where they planned to stay three nights. They had a cosy room, and had
dinner there, because they were exhausted.

The following morning they got up at 10.00 am. They had breakfast in the
spacious lobby. While they had the breakfast, Allison´s parents taught her
how to get around the city.

“So, Allison, what’re your plans for today?”, Aria asked.
“Mmmmm, I think that I will visit Brooklyn’s Bridge, the Statue of Liberty,
9/11 Memorial, the MoMA, the Empire State, the Rockefeller Center”, Allison
answered.
“I don’t think you will be able to go to so many places in one day. You
should organize your visits in three days at least”, Ezra added.
“Ok, I will do that”, Allison replied.
“Subways in New York are the best means of transport. But you must be
careful. Pick the right color and the right way”, Ezra advised her.
“Take this map, dear. It will help you to plan your day”, Aria said.
“Thanks Mum, thanks Daddy. I love you. See you later for dinner”, Allison answered excited.
Then, Aria and Ezra went to work and Allison stayed in the hotel to plan her day.

Allison decided that she would visit the Bridge, the Statue, and the Memorial
that day, leaving the other ones for the following days.

She went to take the subway. She looked at the map. She should take the
yellow line and get off at City Hall station. She didn’t like the subway very
much, it was filthy and deserted.

The City Hall station was under construction and the subway went directly to
Brooklyn, but Allison hadn’t realized about that.
Allison got off the subway and tried to find someone to ask for help. It was
getting dark so she started walking quickly looking for someone to help her.

While she was walking, she crossed a dark and shabby street.  She was scared
and shocked.

Suddenly, she saw a group of teenagers smoking and drinking alcohol, just
around the corner. She started running.

“Hey guys. Look at that precious girl! She doesn’t live here”, Antony whispered.
“Yeah, she looks lost, and scared. She must be another tourist lost in
Brooklyn”, Peter added.
“Tourists mean money, let’s go and get her” Marc shouted.
The teenagers ran after her and caught her. They grabbed her arm and put a
handkerchief with chloroform on her mouth and nose.

That was the last time everybody saw her.
